I have assigned many Study Island assignments for the students.  They are working on them in class as part of our preparation for the EOG's.  The students are also encouraged to work on them at home...the more practice, the better the outcome!

May 13th is the due date since the EOG's are next week.  If your child does not complete all of the assignments, it is okay.  I understand students work at different paces.  The assignments that are out there complete the NC standard course of study for Math and Reading for 3rd grade.  The more they do, the better prepared they will be!  :)

Progress Reports 05/08/2012

Please look at Teacher Ease for your child's progress report and sign his/her agenda to let me know you have reviewed it with your child.

If your child is failing a subject(s), you will receive a physical progress report to sign and return.

Please note any missing work your child may have, and encourage him/her to complete it and turn it in.  Turning in completed classwork, homework, and Study Island assignments on time reflects in the students' grades.  We have been working all year on being responsible, which includes not losing assignments and turning assignments in on time.  As the school year winds down, I want to make sure the students stay focused and finish the year strong.

Third quarter was our best yet, but we would like to make fourth quarter even better!!

Hello!

Here is a look at our week:

In math we are learning about Data Analysis and Probability.  We are focusing on permutations (when the order of possible outcomes matters), combinations (when the order does not matter), and tree diagrams (used to find permutations and combinations).  We are also conducting surveys and using the data to create pictographs.  On Friday, the students will take a Probability and Analysis Test.

In language arts we are learning how to recognize different genres of literature, focusing on Realistic fiction, Science fiction, Historical fiction, Non-fiction, Fantasy, Poetry, & Mystery.  The class is working in groups to create movie posters for each genre.  We will also be comparing and contrasting information using thinking maps and well-known stories.  The students will be finishing their cursive writing booklets this week - they have worked so hard!!

In social studies we are finishing our unit on Change in Communities.  We are also creating in-class mosaic art projects on different elements of Peru, our sister country, for the International Festival.

Parent night for Reading EOG's in Grades 3-5

April 4th from 5:30-7:00 in Amy Fitchett's Room

Presenter:  Amy Fitchett, 4th grade teacher

Believe it or not, the end of the year is looming, and with that come the EOGs.  Many parents wonder how they can help their child feel successful, and perform his or her best. On April 4, at 5:30 pm , Mrs. Fitchett
(fourth grade teacher), will be offering a workshop on reading skills and strategies for the EOGs for parents of students in grades 3- 5 in her classroom. Mrs. Fitchett will give an overview of simple strategies your child can (and should) use to help be successful, as well as providing resources where your child can get additional
practice in preparation for this sometimes anxiety producing test.
All are welcome!
