Students are responsible for writing assignments and important dates on an agenda that should be kept in their Home folder. Students will have the opportunity to work on some assignments at school, however you should review your child’s homework before it is submitted. If your child is struggling with an assignment or topic, please email me.

Math
- Math Homework – Distribution will vary/Due the following day
- Math homework will vary depending on the content covered that week. Students should complete these independently and review with a parent to make corrections as needed.
- Math Facts
- All addition and subtraction facts should have been memorized by the end of second grade. If your child needs more practice, they should review these facts each night until they are memorized.
- Once we have begun our multiplication/division unit students will be expected to practice these facts each night until they are memorized and all multiplication facts timed tests have been passed.
English Language Arts
- ELA Homework – Distribution will vary/Due the following day
- Students should complete these independently and review with a parent to make corrections as needed.
- Study for Spelling and Vocabulary Tests – Distributed Monday/Tests Friday
- Quarterly Family Book Study – Due one week before the end of each quarter
- Each quarter students will choose a chapter book to do a book study with at least one family member. The main purpose for this assignment is for your child to have an opportunity to bond with family through literature. This is so important in order for children to develop a value of reading. When children see their parents (or siblings, grandparents, etc.) excited about reading, children mimic that excitement. Even if you don’t see a love of reading in your child now, doing things like this will impact how they feel about reading as they get older. THIS SHOULD BE ENJOYABLE FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILD!
- Step 1: Choose a book and determine who will be a part of the book study.
- Step 2: Determine the day/time the book study will take place. (Examples: Saturday and Sunday mornings; each night before bed; Monday, Wednesday, Friday after school; etc). Be sure enough time is allotted for your family to finish reading the book and your child to complete the Book Questionnaire by the due date.
- Step 3: Begin reading the book! Reading is to be done out loud. The amount that you read versus the amount your child reads is not important to me. The purpose of this assignment is for children to have a positive experience with literature with their family. If your child loves to read and wants to do most of the reading, fantastic. If your child does not enjoy reading and just wants to read the half pages and listen to you read most of it, not a problem. The more animated you are when you read, the more exciting this will be for your child. The more excited you are about this, the more excited your child will be about this.
- As you are reading and afterward, talk about what you read, what you think will happen next, which characters you like/don’t like and why, how it relates to your family, etc.
- Step 4: Your child will complete the Book Study Questionnaire once the book is finished and turn it in to me by the due date.
